Airport
Denver International Airport is America's newest and largest, covering 53 sq miles. Located just 30 mins to the east of the city centre, it serves more than 38 million passengers annually and 18 cargo carriers, making it the world's 10th busiest airport. to City Centre
Taxis are available directly at the airport ranks and many hotels offer a free shuttle service. Travel time from the airport to downtown Denver is 30 min. Taxi charges will range from $30-$40 depending on destination. If you are traveling to the Denver Technological Center allow 35 min; to Boulder, Colorado, approximately 50 min; and to Golden, Colorado 40 min.
Orientation
Denver is easy to get around. Although the metro area encompasses a 600-mile radius, the central city is set up on a grid system, making it easy to find your way.
Major in-town streets include the 16th St Mall, which runs north to south and is a major pedestrian thoroughfare downtown with free shuttle service up and down the mall. At the end of the mall is Colfax Avenue, which runs east to west and marks the southern end of downtown. To the north is Market St, a major gateway to many of Central Denver's entertainment hot spots.
Major highways include Interstate-70 to the north of downtown and Interstate-25 to the west of town. The former provides easy access to mountain resorts and intersects with C-470, a state highway that connects to Interstate-25. Interstate-25 provides access north to Boulder and further south to Colorado Springs.

Mountain Resorts: The world-famous ski and summer resorts of Vail, Beaver Creek, Brekenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Winter Park are all only an hour and a half west of Denver. Rocky Mountain National Park: One of the most beautiful spots in the States, the park offers 412 square miles of lakes, meadows, wildflowers, waterfalls, hiking tails and wildlife. The resort village of Estes Park, 90 min from Denver, has shopping and dining at the eastern entrance to the park.
Georgetown: This beautiful old mining village, 40 min from Denver, boasts more than 200 restored Victorian buildings and the Georgetown Loop, a narrow gauge steam train that curls down the mountainside.
Red Rocks Park: Just 20 min from downtown Denver, this park not only offers a 9,000-seat arena carved out of red sandstone cliffs, but it also overlooks all the lights of Denver. With numerous hiking trails and beautiful red rock cliffs, the park is open from daylight until dark.

Taxis are hailed in the street or from outside any main business centre or hotel.
The Regional Transit District operates the city's bus and light rail system. Public transport is accessible in a 2,300 sq mile district around Denver.
Rail travel from the city is available at Union Station. A Ski Train also operates during winter months, making a scenic 2-hr trek to Winter Park.

US Mint: More than five billion coins are struck here every year, and the basement has the second-largest storehouse of gold bullion in the nation after Fort Knox.
Denver Performing Arts Complex: Largest performing complex under one roof in the world, 'The PLEX' features eight theatres, including Boettcher Concert Hall, America's first symphony hall in the round.
Denver Art Museum: With more than 40,000 works of art, the DAM is one of the largest museums in the West. The Native American collection is the finest and most extensive in the world.
Denver Museum of Nature and Science: The fifth largest museum of its kind, it is a maze of dioramas, dinosaurs, gems and exhibitions.
Denver Zoo: Home to more than 3,500 animals and open year-round.
Buffalo Bill's Grave and Museum: A gun collection and posters from his Wild West Show are among the memorabilia honouring the famous frontier scout, showman and Pony Express rider William F Cody. Vegetarians beware: Cody killed 4, 280 buffaloes in 18 months. The grave affords a beautiful view of the mountains and plains.
The Coors Brewery: Colorado brews more beer than any other US state and this place pours out more beer than anywhere else on the planet.

From Neiman Marcus to Nordstrom, from Saks Fifth Avenue to Lord and Taylor, Denver offers every kind of shopping experience. Top spots include the 16th St Mall, in historic Larimer Sq or in LoDo. Nearby Cherry Creek Shopping Center and Cherry Creek North offer the dual shopping choice of strolling around an ultra deluxe enclosed mall or browsing through galleries and boutiques.
Where to Tour
Sixteenth St Mall: An hour-long walk from historic lower downtown's Market St station to upper downtown's high-rises. Shops, eateries and boutiques line the way. Start at the Regional Transit District's Market St stop and travel south to Cleveland Pl.
Museum Walking Tour: Starting at the Denver Art Museum on Bannock St, take Bannock south to the Byer's Evans House and the Denver History Museum for a glimpse into the city's past. From the Denver History Museum follow 13th Ave east (towards the plains) to Broadway. Enjoy an afternoon at the Colorado History Museum located at Broadway and 13th Ave. The total walking time is 30 mins, the total touring time is up to you.
Lower Downtown Walking Tour: Walk from the historic Oxford Hotel at 17th St and Wazee south to Blake St and continue eastward through a variety of shops, galleries and entertainment venues. Continue along Blake to 19th St and travel north to Wynkoop St. Enjoy a meal at any of the microbreweries along the way and end up at Union Station - 'Gateway to the West.

Denver boasts more than 300 days of sunshine. Average temperature during the summer ranges from highs of 85ºF to lows of 57ºF. In winter, average daytime temperatures range from -46ºF to 19ºF. Denver's climate changes quickly. Sunny days often bring cool temperatures at night - even during summer - so always dress in layers and bring sunscreen.
